How I Built My Own AI Growth Assistant

Over the past few months, I’ve been using ChatGPT’s Projects feature to build something that’s quietly become one of my most valuable tools: a professional growth hub designed to help me navigate job searching, tailor applications, prep for interviews, and think through big career moves.

No flashy interface. No custom code. Just one carefully structured AI workspace—fed with the right context, tone, and information to support me like an extension of my own brain.

Here’s how I set it up, what I included, and how I actually use it.

🛠 Setting Up My Core Prompt

At the heart of the Project is a master prompt that gives ChatGPT a deep understanding of who I am, how I work, and what I’m good at. It’s a positioning statement, but also a filter—telling the AI how to speak, what to avoid (like jargon or empty buzzwords), and what kind of work actually fits me.

“I help brands, agencies, and startups make their marketing work better—by connecting the dots between paid media, email/CRM, content, and data…”

It also outlines:

  • How I work best (collaboratively, with space to think and build)

  • My top skills (like connecting channels, optimizing workflows, and simplifying the customer journey)

  • What kinds of roles or projects I’m looking for

  • Rules for how the AI should talk—clear, useful, and no fluff

📎 Feeding It Context

To make the Project truly useful, I uploaded everything it might need to know about my career:

  • Multiple tailored versions of my resume

  • A DISC profile to inform tone and leadership style

  • A long thread of LinkedIn recommendations

  • Notes, reflections, and frameworks on where I want to go next

Combined, this helps ChatGPT feel less like a chatbot and more like a strategic partner that understands how I think and what I’m aiming for.

🧩 Adding Structure with Visual Thinking

I’m also pairing this with Miro, where I’ve been mapping out my thinking across career goals, job targets, freelance tracks, and positioning statements. It acts as a real-time whiteboard for capturing where everything connects—clients, paths, tools, and strategies.

The ChatGPT Project handles synthesis and content. Miro helps me see the system—and spot gaps, patterns, or opportunities I might’ve missed.

💡 How I Use This Every Week

Once it’s set up, the system becomes incredibly versatile. I use it to:

Tailor resumes to specific job listings
Write cover letters that sound like me
Prep for interviews with strategy and storytelling prompts
Brainstorm cold outreach and client pitches
Explore long-term positioning for my personal brand, side projects, or business ideas

🎯 Why This Works

This system helps me stay focused, consistent, and creative—especially during a time when it’s easy to get overwhelmed by job boards, applications, and half-finished ideas.

It also helps me simplify the messy parts of professional growth by turning everything into a series of connected prompts, documents, and visual maps.

I’m not automating my career—I’m supporting it with better tools, clearer thinking, and way less friction.

If you're thinking about building your own personal growth assistant with AI and visual tools, I’d start with just two things:

  1. Write your core prompt (who you are, how you work, what you want).

  2. Map your goals or roles visually (even just on paper or in a Miro board).

Let the AI support your clarity. Let your own system guide your decisions.
